The Michigan Public Service Commission approved an application submitted by Alpena Power Company for a pilot program to allow broader installation of electric vehicle chargers in its service territory.

The program consists of two main aspects; first, allowing participants to take advantage of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy grants through which utilities, customers and EGLE share costs for new chargers and second, allows for expanded application of power company’s general service tariff to prospective EV charging stations through a demand waiver.

Alpena Power said in a press release Tuesday that it looks forward to working with its community partners to expand the availability of EV chargers.
