The Jaguar I-Pace fares well in the charging area by supporting home and public charging. DC rapid charging is available at select public stations.

With the Jaguar I-Pace comes the automaker's heritage of luxury alongside a suite of admirable electric vehicle credentials, but how does this electric crossover fare in the charging department? EV charging is fast becoming a trend that many people are jumping on by switching to electric cars. However, EVs come with different needs despite looking like traditional gasoline cars. Buyers will have to grow accustomed to plugging in their electric vehicles and waiting while more miles of driving range get added. Although charging stations are part of an ongoing transition to clean energy, there aren't many to go around yet. Luckily, the U.S. government has resolved to support the EV crusade following an agreement with select automakers and other stakeholders.

The Jaguar I-Pace has racked up several notable awards like the 2019 European Car of the Year and 2019 World Car of the Year. However, while the I-Pace is a pretty successful EV, especially in Europe, it is currently ineligible for a federal tax credit. For intending buyers in the U.S looking for a federal incentive, that's unpleasant news. Previously, the I-Pace qualified for the $7,500 credit, but that's no longer the case. Under the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act, EVs not assembled in North America become ineligible for the credit. However, if Jaguar Land Rover relocated its I-Pace assembly plant to North America, the EV would regain its eligibility.

While drivers can charge every EV at home and on the go, some EVs aren't compatible with certain chargers. When charging stations aren't as many as gas stations, this isn't a good look for EVs. Fortunately, the I-Pace supports fast charging, meaning drivers can add more miles in fewer minutes. Jaguar claims that 78 miles can be attained in 15 minutes using a DC fast charger. The I-Pace comes with a 90 kWh battery, coupled with a duo of permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, delivering 246 miles of range. The EV also offers a max power output of 394 hp with 512 lb-ft of usable torque.

Home charging is arguably the most convenient method of replenishing an EV's battery. At home, owners can plug in overnight and awake to meet a fully charged vehicle ready to roll. The I-Pace will attain full charge status overnight when owners use a Jaguar-approved Level 2 (240V) home charger. Drivers can opt to use the standard outlet rated at 120 volts, though fast charging is sacrificed. A 120V outlet increases the charge time, making it an unlikely choice for those looking to add more miles in less time.

Jaguar suggests that customers install the latest Home Flex home charging station supplied by ChargePoint. It's considered a powerful home charger because it can add up to 22 miles of range per hour. Qmerit can be contacted for installation. Locating public charging stations is made easy using the Jaguar Go I-Pace App. The smartphone app is designed to provide users with an estimated battery range, expected cost savings, and, most importantly—the closest charging stations. Charging can be controlled using the Jaguar Remote app. Drivers can also see the current charge state, charge rate and other charging-related facts.
