The Dutch company Lightyear, which wants to bring its own solar car on the market at the end of 2021, has started a trial with its solar cells on a Tesla Model 3 and a Volkswagen Crafter LCV.It wants to find out more about the return.Almost a year ago, Lightyear announced the Lightyear One, an electric car with a range of 725 km, during an international event in Katwijk. The Lightyear One is characterized by its aerodynamic design that should minimize air resistance, by the integrated solar panels on the hood and by the roof that extends to the tailgate.Tweakers published a report about this at the time. After four previous research vehicles, Lightyear is now adding two new cars to its fleet to test the solar panels in practice. It concerns a Volkswagen Crafter LCV van and a sunroof integrated into a Tesla Model 3. These two research vehicles, numbered 005 and 006, are driving around the Lightyear headquarters in Helmond and on Dutch roads. The aim of the trial is to measure and validate the added value of an integrated solar roof on electric cars, including the energy yield in practice. The company also hopes to gain insight into the consequences for vibration, shock and waterproofing. The tests are important to further develop a safe, reliable and sustainable solar system for the Lightyear One.The roof developed by Lightyear consists of a double-curved glass-covered solar panel supported by electronics - maximum power point trackers or mppts - to ensure efficient operation. The inclusion of solar cells increases the range and reduces the time to charge. It concerns SunPower Maxeon solar cells and a conductive back sheet from DSM, which also generate energy when the car is half in the shade. The solar cells have been developed in collaboration with DSM, which supplies the conductive back plate so that all connections of the solar cells can be placed on the back of the solar panel. This makes every available centimeter at the front of the module available to absorb sunlight. This construction reportedly provides a reduction in electrical cell-to-module losses, but also results in a 3 percent increase in power. The partnership between DSM and Lightyear aims to integrate solar-powered roofs into a variety of electric vehicles, including cars, vans and buses, so that users can charge their vehicles directly with clean energy.Lightyear also works with lease companies LeasePlan and Mijndomein, which means it hopes to tap into a broad business target group. The Tesla Model 3 (006) was facilitated by the collaboration between these companies and is the first pilot project to be realized under the agreement signed between Lightyear and DSM.Lightyear expects to release its seventh research vehicle, numbered 007, by the end of this year. This vehicle is completely built on Lightyear's solar car platform and has to prove the three core techniques of Lightyear One in practice: the solar system, the in-wheel motors and the lightweight construction, in addition to the inverters and the battery management system. The first production models of the Lightyear One should be delivered at the end of 2021.Lightyear One promises a range of 725km[Comment edited by hiostu on June 19, 2020 13:33][Comment edited by Rubizon on June 19, 2020 9:51 PM][Comment edited by Dabbel on June 20, 2020 02:43][Comment edited by JUST_me on June 20, 2020 10:18][Comment edited by jelcon on June 20, 2020 11:10][Comment edited by Dabbel on June 20, 2020 12:36][Comment edited by Fidesnl on June 19, 2020 17:47][Comment edited by TWeaKLeGeND on June 19, 2020 18:12][Comment edited by Fidesnl on June 19, 2020 18:18][Comment edited by Dabbel on June 20, 2020 02:56][Comment edited by TWeaKLeGeND on June 20, 2020 19:05][Comment edited by Solinx on June 19, 2020 16:06][Comment edited by rogver on June 20, 2020 13:41][Comment edited by bladerash on June 20, 2020 14:19][Comment edited by Deveon on June 19, 2020 13:42][Comment edited by SuperDre on June 19, 2020 16:15][Comment edited by redslow on June 19, 2020 13:00][Comment edited by D11 on June 24, 2020 12:53][Comment edited by misterbennie on June 19, 2020 2:52 PM][Comment edited by mjz2cool on June 19, 2020 15:59][Comment edited by skdevil on June 19, 2020 13:10][Comment edited by MN-Power on June 19, 2020 14:17][Comment edited by KoffieAnanas on June 19, 2020 13:55][Comment edited by GrooV on June 19, 2020 12:55 PM][Comment edited by multikoe on June 19, 2020 16:48]Choose score Note: Assess responses objectively. The quality of the argument is leading for the assessment of a response, not whether an opinion agrees with yours.A more extensive overview of how the moderation system works can be found in the Moderation FAQReport abuse of moderations in Frontpage Moderation. This item can not be responded to.Nintendo Switch (OLED model) Apple iPhone SE (2022) LG G1 Google Pixel 6 Call of Duty: Vanguard Samsung Galaxy S22 Garmin fēnix 7 Nintendo Switch LiteTogether with Hardware Info, AutoTrack, Gasmetaal.nl, Nationale Vacaturebank, Intermediair and Independer, Tweakers forms DPG Online Services BV All rights reserved © 1998 -
